Criteria for Support

We’re here to support as many families as possible across Sussex. Learn how we assess eligibility and what to expect from the process.

Supporting Families Across Sussex

The Children’s Respite Trust exists to provide high-quality care for disabled children and support for their families in Sussex. Our centre is based in Uckfield, which serves as the hub for our care, so most of the families we support travel here to access our services.

We strive to assist as many families as possible, but due to limited resources, we must prioritise those who are most in need. To ensure fairness, we take a holistic approach, evaluating the child’s needs within the context of their family and the broader impact of the disability.

Eligibility Considerations

Acceptance into our services is subject to these considerations and outcomes of the assessments.

FeatureDetails
DiagnosisWe do not always require a formal diagnosis. Instead, we consider significant evidence and the history of symptoms on a case-by-case basis, as many children may present with a variety of symptoms rather than a single recognisable condition.
Comprehensive AssessmentEach child will undergo an assessment conducted by a member of our team. This process typically includes visits to the family’s home and, where possible, the child’s school or other relevant settings to build a comprehensive understanding of their situation.
Information and Safety RequirementsIn-depth information will be required to ensure we can safely meet the young person’s needs, including details of their medical history, any challenging behaviours, and any other specific requirements.

Current Service Availability

Due to the high demand for our services, we are unable to accept new families for some of our programmes at this time. We encourage families to visit the individual service pages on our website for the latest updates on availability. Alternatively, you can contact our team directly to discuss your needs and explore other potential support options.

If you have any questions or wish to learn more about our criteria for support, please do not hesitate to get in touch. Our team is here to help and guide you through the process.

No family should be left to care for a disabled child alone. Help us to continue providing support for families that need it most.
