We’re delighted to share progress on the refurbishment of our respite centre in Uckfield, helping us create a brighter, more welcoming space for the children and families who rely on our support.

Work has been underway in the main playroom, where the walls have been lined with a damp-proof membrane, then battened, boarded and freshly plastered. Once the plaster has fully dried, we’ll be painting the room to bring it to life as a fun and uplifting space for the children. We’ve also been able to repaint the central lobby, and next on the list are the front and back porches, along with cladding work in the toilets.

Creating a bright, safe and welcoming environment is so important for the children we support. A cheerful space encourages play, confidence and relaxation, helping children truly enjoy their time at the Centre while giving families valuable respite.

This progress has only been possible thanks to the incredible support of our community. Huge thanks to Rob from NPS for carrying out so much of the plastering work, Parkers Building Supplies for providing many of the materials, CBL Fastenings who donated fixings and sealants and Hero Plumbing for completing the plumbing work.

We’re also incredibly grateful to Nicky Thomas and Matt Tycehurst, who generously gave up their time to volunteer, as well as the many other volunteers who came along to help during DIY Week. A special thank you to M&S for providing snacks to keep everyone going!

And of course, thank you to the Screwfix Foundation for their grant, which helped make these improvements possible.

It’s amazing what can be achieved when a community comes together.
