What a summer it has been at The Children’s Respite Trust!
Over the past few months, our children have enjoyed a brilliant mix of adventures, days out, time in the sunshine and plenty of the little moments that make summer so special. From exciting day trips to relaxed afternoons at the centre, there has been something for everyone to enjoy.
Our care sessions are about so much more than keeping children entertained. They provide opportunities for children with disabilities and additional needs to try new things, develop their independence, build friendships and experience activities that may not always be accessible to them elsewhere. At the same time, our care gives parents and carers valuable time to rest, work, spend time with other children or simply recharge.
Adventures big and small
This summer, our children have enjoyed some fantastic trips and experiences. Highlights included exploring the fascinating Sea Life Centre, stepping back in time at Hever Castle, enjoying the rides and attractions at Knockhatch Adventure Park and even taking to the water for some paddleboarding at Cuckmere Haven.
For some children, trying a new activity or visiting somewhere unfamiliar can be a huge achievement. Our care team are there to provide the support and encouragement needed to make these experiences possible, helping each child take part in a way that works for them.
And it hasn't all been about big days out. Some of our favourite summer memories have come from the simple things. We've headed into town to watch the trains, enjoyed plenty of milkshake stops, visited Raystead and, of course, made time for lots of ice cream!
Keeping everyone cool
When the summer heatwave arrived, our care team adapted activities to make sure the children could continue to have fun while staying comfortable and safe. We enjoyed a range of indoor activities alongside plenty of water play, giving everyone the chance to cool down while staying busy and engaged.
Being able to adapt care around each child's individual needs is an important part of what we do. Whether a child wants to get involved in a group activity or take things at their own pace, our team work hard to make sure there are opportunities for everyone.
More than just a day out
For many families, having access to specialist respite care can make a huge difference. School holidays can feel daunting with a change in routine and our sessions give children a safe space to have fun. For parents, knowing their child is somewhere they are understood and cared for can provide invaluable peace of mind easing the pressure.
