Our Centre

The Children’s Respite Trust is delighted to have acquired a premises in October 2017 which we are developing into a warm, welcoming and homely respite centre in the heart of the Charity’s catchment area, Uckfield, East Sussex.

Work to be Done

The new charity respite centre for disabled children in Uckfield, serving Sussex, Surrey and Kent will have messy playWork is well underway to turn the former Friday Advertiser printing works into The East Sussex Children’s Respite Centre, which will be full of fun, colour and care for disabled children.

In our centre we will have a large play area for the children, including a messy play corner with lots of fun and messy activities. We are having a soft play area installed which will be very fun and stimulating, as well as a family-style dining room, which the children will use to eat all the lovely lunches we make in the open plan kitchen. Across from the kitchen will house our games room, which will have a pool table and lots of interactive games. Everything in the centre will be very accessible so that all of the children can make good use of it.

We are installing a lift to gain access to the upstairs of the Centre, where we will have our quiet lounge with a big TV, library and comfy sofas and our therapy room for children to have quiet time, therapies for parents and meetings to discuss casework.

What it means for the families

The Challenge

The challenge for the Trust is enormous! To get the centre finished and to open our doors on September 14th 2018 we are working tirelessly to secure the funding for the development through many differing ways:

  • Having corporate sponsors of certain areas in the centre
  • Trusts and Foundation giving very generously towards the development of the centre
  • Fundraising Events
  • Community donations from Rotary clubs and Masonics groups
  • Individual donations

We have had an incredible response so far from all of the above, but we need to raise the money on an ongoing basis to employ the dedicated care staff needed to make this the wonderfully stimulating, fun and caring place that it can be for the children.

Where we are now

As mentioned above, we have received some incredibly generous donations from Trusts & Foundations, local companies, Rotary Clubs and Masonic lodges around the south coast in the last few months, and we have told their stories over on our News page. These wonderful donations are enabling us to move forward with our project in a great way, the development is in full swing, so please check our Facebook page and Instagram page for live photo updates!
