Children's Respite Trust recieves Good rating from Ofsted

We are thrilled to share the wonderful news that the Children’s Respite Trust Centre in Uckfield has been rated ‘Good’ across all areas in our first ever Ofsted inspection, carried out on 12th March 2025.

This inspection took place during one of our Little Stars sessions, but we’re proud to say that the ‘Good’ judgement applies across all three Ofsted registers: the Early Years Register, Compulsory Childcare Register, and Voluntary Childcare Register.

This result is a reflection of the dedication and compassion of our team and our supporters, who ensure we provide a nurturing and supportive environment for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and their families.

The report praised our calm and settled setting, strong leadership, and clear values that place children and families at the heart of everything we do. Ofsted highlighted how our skilled staff use a range of communication tools, including Makaton and visual aids, to ensure each child feels understood and supported. They also noted the commitment to promoting children’s independence, development, and well-being both at the centre and at home.

We were particularly pleased to see the report commend our strong relationships with families with the inspector stating “Parents talk incredibly highly of the progress their children make and how they feel part of a family at the setting.”. We are so proud that the compassionate community we have built for families has been recognised. Other highlights include our inclusive curriculum and our focus on children’s personal development through play, community outings, and sensory exploration.

Chief Executive Gavin Fisher said:
“We are incredibly proud to receive this Good rating from Ofsted. It reflects the compassion, skill, and commitment of our staff, trustees, volunteers and supporters. Most importantly, it affirms the high-quality care, education and opportunities we strive to offer every child and family who walks through our doors.”

This outcome marks an exciting milestone for the Trust and is a great foundation for continued growth and improvement. Thank you to our community of families, staff, volunteers, donors, and friends who make this all possible.
