The Children’s Respite Trust is delighted to announce that thanks to a generous donation from the Uckfield Lions, we’ve been able to purchase an iPad for our Centre as part of our My Voice communication project.
Already, the iPad is having a significant impact. It supports children with disabilities in accessing vital communication tools such as Widgit and PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System), helping those who are non-verbal or have limited speech to express their thoughts, choices, and emotions more effectively – giving them a voice in their world.
The iPad is also being used to create visual timetables and personalised learning resources that support routine, understanding, and emotional regulation. These tools can reduce anxiety, increase independence, and improve the overall experience for children during their time at the Centre.
In addition to helping children communicate, the iPad plays a key role in strengthening relationships with families. Staff use it to capture photos, videos, and notes that showcase each child’s learning journey and progress, allowing parents to feel more connected and informed.
We were very happy to welcome Graham Baldwin from the Uckfield and District Lions Club for a photo presentation and to share the impact so far. The donation from the Uckfield Lions, together with funds raised at our 2024 Masquerade Ball, has made this meaningful project possible. We are incredibly grateful for this support, which is helping children to be heard, understood, and celebrated every day.
