Sunny Season at CRT

Disabled Children in Sussex enjoy a summer full of fun

This past summer, all the staff and volunteers at the Children’s Respite Trust were hard at work creating unforgettable moments for the disabled children we support. We are thrilled to share the stories and adventures that were made possible during the sunny season.

At the Trust we are commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of disabled children and their families. Summer 2023 was no exception, as we pulled out all the stops to ensure that our children had the time of their lives, and parents could experience some much-needed respite.

One of the highlights of the summer was the sessions held at our centre in Uckfield . These sessions offered a safe and nurturing environment where children with additional needs could explore, learn, and have fun while their parents took a break. Our dedicated staff and volunteers ensured that every activity and game they planned sparked the young people’s imaginations and encouraged engagement.

However, the excitement didn’t stop within our centre’s walls. The care team organised a series of exhilarating excursions into our local community, creating lasting memories for the children. Some of the standout moments included a visit to the awe-inspiring Big Cat Sanctuary, where our children were captivated by the magnificent creatures and were treated to a special educational experience.  Additionally, the adventures at Buzz Active Cuckmere left them with a newfound sense of confidence and accomplishment as they mastered paddle boarding.

Our little adventurers also explored the wonders of Fishers Farm and the British Wildlife Centre, where they delighted in seeing the different animals up close. The Bewl Water Inflatable Park added a splash of excitement, with the children bouncing about and supporting each other and staff over the obstacles.

The Siblings Group also embarked on a very special day at Branching Out Adventures. There, they supported each other as they conquered the challenging Treetop course, building friendships and creating memories. The bounce nets provided an opportunity to let loose and simply have a blast while leaving their worries behind.

Our summer activities were not only about fun; they were about providing parents with the respite they so deeply deserved. The Children’s Respite Trust remains committed to supporting families facing the unique challenges of caring for disabled children. Every smile, every shared adventure, and every moment of respite is only possible because of our generous supporters. Together, we can ensure that every child and every family receives the care, support, and moments of joy they deserve.
